One of the reasons why roofers and homeowners love using plasterboard for the ceiling is that the boards are light and easy to install. Furthermore, plasterboards are fire-resistant, which also makes them the go-to ceiling material for roofers. That said, you can only enjoy the benefits if the plasterboard ceiling is installed correctly. As a rookie roofer, ensuring that you have the right accessories for the job is the only way to guarantee the correct installation. This article highlights some essential plasterboard accessories that rookies need for the first plasterboard ceiling installation project.
Plasterboard Lift -- Although plasterboards are light, the boards can be a piece of work if you are working on a big project. This is especially the case if you are using the tradition ladder to fix plasterboards on the ceiling. One disadvantage of using a ladder is that you need at least two people for the project -- one to hold the drywall and the other to drive in the screws. However, if you want to save time and enhance efficiency, then you should get a plasterboard lift. The equipment helps to raise plasterboards of varying sizes to the ceiling and hold them in place as you go around fastening the boards in place. All you need to do is place the plasterboard on the lift and then raise it to the required height using a lever before clumping the boards and screwing the edges.
Rubber-Bladed Applicator -- Once you have screwed each piece of plasterboard ceiling in place, you might want to fill in the joints with filler. Some roofers do not mind using the traditional metal plastering trowel or even a piece of flexible plywood as an applicator. However, the two are not excellent at removing any excess filler after it dries. Therefore, more work is required in rubbing the plasterboard down to give it a neat finish. On the other hand, a rubber-bladed applicator is a better accessory because it does an excellent job at feathering out the filler. Notably, it leaves you with only a tiny ridge to smooth down once the filler is dry. Consequently, you save time and filler.
Plasterboard Joint Paper Tape -- As plasterboard ceiling age, it begins to wrinkle, and this makes it susceptible to cracking. If there is no reinforcement, the cracking can accelerate from one wall to the other, especially if the boards are not staggered. With a plasterboard joint paper tape, however, your clients do not have to worry about a cracking plasterboard ceiling because the tape adds tensile strength that prevents tearing or wrinkling. Moreover, some paper tapes have a centered crease, which simplifies application in the corners. The chamfered edges and perforations prevent possible bubbling or blistering.
